Close-Up Photos of Ants by Joshua Coogler: Detailed and Nightmarish

Are you ready to have your skin crawl? Photographer Joshua Coogler has captured some truly nightmarish close-up photos of ants that are sure to give you nightmares. Using a Laowa 25mm Ultra Macro lens, Coogler is able to get closer to the cranium of an ant than most people would dare. He also uses two gooseneck LED lights, which he diffuses with paper towels to bring out even more detail in the resulting images.

When viewed up close, the faces of these ants almost look like masks from a horror movie. And with a magnification of 5x, every nook and cranny of these insects is captured in stunning detail. These photos bring out details on the ants that the human eye could never get close to seeing, and some of us might not even want to.

Scroll down to see a selection of Coogler’s terrifying photos of ants, and be sure to visit his website and Facebook for more of his work. Just be warned: these images are not for the faint of heart.
